Alpine, Tx. Mar. 2012

We arrived in Alpine, Tx. on March 19th 2012. We were so excited to be back on the road and traveling again. The campground that we were staying at was 6 miles South of Alpine, and was very secluded, there were only 14 sites or so there and a ton of scenery for as far as the eye could see.

We went to Big Bend National Park while staying in Alpine. We were there for 4 days and had heard there was a lot of stuff to do in the park, so we went exploring. There were a lot of hiking trails, and the scenery was breathtaking. We hiked Santa Elena Canyon Trail. It was beautiful.

We also went to a Natural Hot Springs. The two-mile gravel road descends down a rough, narrow wash to the Hot Springs. From the trailhead, the hot spring is a 0.5 mile round trip. A one-mile loop trail continues from the hot spring around on the bluff above the Rio Grande, returning to the trailhead area. The hot spring is not accessible by car.  Hot spring water is considered old water, fossil water, ancient and irreplaceable. Heated by geothermal processes and emerging at 105° F., the water carries dissolved mineral salts reputed to have healing powers.

We spent the whole day at Big Bend, it was amazing. We ended the day by stopping in Terlingua for dinner at a Authentic Mexican Restaurant called Rio Bravo.

On our way home, which was about 80 Miles from the park, we saw a huge herd of Deer, and a large family of Javelina Pigs.

We still have until April 19th until we have a commitment to be  at, so our next stop is Carlsbad Caverns for 8 days.
